From May 2021 to May 2023, as the Creative Content Director for Campus Activities Board (CAB) at the University of Northern Iowa, I utilized Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and TikTok to promote our events to the student body. While our Instagram, Facebook and Twitter already existed when I stepped into the role, I took the liberty of creating a TikTok account for us, which received 255 followers and 801 likes in its first year

In this role, I took advantage of the creative freedom I was given to explore new design techniques and expand my knowledge of Adobe Illustrator. I also dipped my feet into brand development. For some of our bigger events, I took the time to create logos and more specific design guidelines for their promotion materials to excite our student body. My strategy and designs, combined with the work of our awesome event photographer, Elliot, created a social media presence that had our campus community hyped for events and showing up in numbers we hadn’t seen in years past! And not only were they showing up, but they wanted to join us in the planning action. CAB membership has grown 75% in the past two years partly due to my dedication to our online presence.

Logo, Instagram posts and poster I created for our CAB After Dark event. As this was our first time hosting a late-night entertainment event, I wanted to go all out in pushing this event to get students thinking about it. I utilized photos from past smaller events such as our Yoga Night and Craft Nights to illustrate how there would be something for everyone at this larger-scale event. After this event took place and and our expectations were blown away with 800 students in attendance, we opted to make CAB After Dark an annual event!

At the start of each semester, we release our activities schedule to social media and hand out free magnets at our first few events. Shown is an Instagram post and the magnet that students got to display on their mini-fridges!

Event campaign for our annual Casino Night including a custom logo, digital signage in high-traffic areas on campus, and social media posts leading up to the event, complete with cheesy casino jokes in the captions. CAB Casino Night has been one of our most popular events these last two academic years, with 300 students attending our most recent one last September.

Rather than using TikTok to promote specific events like I did on Instagram, I chose to create content that gave UNI students a glimpse of what CAB was like behind the scenes. Our TikTok page was a fun one, full of energy and Panther Pride. Check out the video gallery below to see some of the TikToks I made during my time with CAB!
